Demystifying Organic Certification for Vegetable Farms

August 14 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm EDT

Join us to understand the benefits and techniques of organic production through a farm tour at 1000 Stone Farm, a small four-season farm in Brookfield that is certified organic by Vermont Organic Farmers (VOF).

Primarily a walk-and-talk workshop, farmer Kyle Doda will lead a tour and share the core principles associated with organic certification, like managing soil health, promoting biodiversity, preventing disease, and record keeping. Staff from VOF will discuss the certification requirements for organic production, like inspections and cost, as well as new opportunities for farmers interested in transitioning to or expanding their certified organic production. There will be copies of the organic standards available and ample time to ask questions with organic experts. This workshop is primarily geared toward vegetable producers and those in a related field interested in an educational organic farm tour.
