Integrated No-Till Farming Systems and Soil Health at Birdsfoot Farm

Avalon Nature Preserve is a 216-acre preserve protecting meadows, woodlands, and shorelines with 140 acres available to the public via trails, community outreach, and children’s programming. Housed on the property is Birdsfoot Farm, a diversified CSA and retail farming operation. Visitors will be shown around the farm by NOFA-NY member and mentor, Ryan Lertora, discussing all aspects of the operation, including the organic methods behind their no-till food and flower production. The focus of the tour will be on the rotational grazing practices employed within the no-till system and the particular methods being utilized to build productive soils using livestock and other “Soil FoodWeb” practices.
