The Dirt on Soil : The Basics of Soil Health

Join us on the YouthGROW farm to learn all about soil health. Ruben Parrilla of NOFA Mass will share simple techniques to judge soil quality. Bring your own soil sample from home to check out under a microscope!

Soil health, plant health and human health are related : healthy soil means healthy plants, healthy food and healthy people. Join the REC and guest speaker Ruben Parrilla from NOFA MASS to learn all about soil health and how to promote healthier soil in your own garden.
Community gardening at public facilities increases access to getting healthy foods in communities that struggle with food access The importance of engaging communities in food security and soil health matters.
Learn how to use soil test results, cover crops and compost to discourage compaction. Learn basic soil health techniques to address soil fertility problems. After attending this workshop you can look forward to less stress and a bountiful harvest!
