How Does It Work?
OFA strives to build and support an organic farmer-led national movement and policy platform by:
- developing and advocating for policies that benefit certified organic farmers
- strengthening and supporting the capacity of organic farmers and farm organizations
- supporting collaboration and leadership among state, regional, and national organic farm organizations
What Is OFA Working On?
Priorities voted on by farmer members for 2026 can be found here, including:
Improving Organic Integrity: We will require the USDA’s National Organic Program to continuously improve organic standards, keep pace with our growing industry, and address and prevent fraud.
Making USDA Programs Work for Organic Farmers: We are working to expand the Organic Certification Cost Share Program to better serve small diversified producers; support the transition to organic with grants for technical assistance; streamline and improve crop insurance for organic farmers; and raise the loan limit to make USDA Micro Loans available to more farms.
Funding Increased Organic Research: We advocate for organic research that prioritizes helping organic farmers prepare for and recover from extreme weather events, develop regionally appropriate publicly available seeds and breeds, and address organic production challenges with methods that reduce the need for inputs.
If these issues and others matter to you and your farm, join as an OFA member now to strengthen the organic movement and secure your farm’s future success.
What Does It Cost?
We offer our annual membership on a sliding scale fee structure, so you can join at a rate that works for you. You can join with a one-time payment or select to have your membership renew automatically annually or monthly.
